Making The Most Out Of Your Article Marketing Campaign To Build Your Link Popularity

By

If you’ve been dabbling in internet marketing for a good period of time now, then you know how important article marketing can be for your online campaigns (or at least you should do).  Article marketing can provide you with a lot of back links that could help build your link popularity so that you may secure a good position in the search engine results pages (SERPs).  Additionally, since you will be submitting your articles to article directories, it would critical to know that some of these directories have high page ranks.  Having your link appear in the pages of websites with high PR would only contribute a substantial boost to your own website’s page rank.

It is critical, therefore, to learn about the subtleties involved with article marketing so that you will be able to optimize your usage of this technique.

Now, you have most probably read about article marketing before, in numerous resources at that(Mine is Article Marketing Secrets on the right hand side => it’s free).  This article isn’t about an introduction to article marketing.  This article assumes that you already know the basics.  In the following paragraphs, we will focus on the things that people do not know about the aforementioned strategy, as well as some tips to help you out when it comes to making the most out of this tactic.

Let’s proceed.

•    Though it is tempting to submit two or more articles to the article directories in the World Wide Web, it is strongly recommended that you try to avoid doing the same in rapid succession.  The search engines, and Google in particular, are quite sensitive about abnormal increases in a website’s link popularity.  By submitting many articles at the same time, you could potentially gain 3,000 or so back links for your website.  In theory, this is excellent.  But since this will be accomplished quite fast, the search engines might categorize it as an abnormal increase, and they may momentarily de-index your website pending further study into the matter.  You wouldn’t want this to happen.  So you better play it safe.  Try to submit articles every two weeks or so to avoid this danger.

•    It isn’t wise to submit an article that is already included in your own website.  As a policy against dupe content, search engines would consider the higher ranking website as the originator of the article.  Hence, your website, having a lower rank, might be designated as harboring duplicate content.  This will not bid well for your page rank.

•    Whenever you’re writing articles, remember that quite a lot of article directories would allow you to use hyperlinks.  The trick is in hyperlinking your website to what we call as anchor texts.  These anchor texts should pertain to the keywords you are targeting.  Doing this would give a significant boost to your chances of getting a better position in the SERPs.  For example, if the keyword you’re targeting is “mesothelioma,” make sure that you will hyperlink your website to every mention of the term in your article.

•    Do not submit PLR articles as they are.  Though PLR articles are great options for affordable content, they are not really meant for article marketing purposes.  Duplicate articles submitted to the directories would just be rejected, or worse, can lead to the banning of your account.  Instead, try to use the PLR articles as bases for the articles you will write for these directories.  The information is already in these PLR articles, after all, hence you won’t need to spend time doing some necessary research.  Write one, original article from the ground up, using your PLR articles as the foundation, and submit the same to the directories.

•    Remember, people will be reading your articles.  These are highly targeted folks.  They will read your article because they are looking for information relevant to the subject of your work.  If you could provide this information clearly, succinctly, and efficiently, they’ll regard you as an expert on the matter and they will grow to trust whatever you will put out.  Hence, it is important to submit the best quality article you could come up with, as your online business’ credibility is on the line.

Hey James,

Good post, I’ve recently just got my first article accepted at Ezine Articles, so this has been an interesting read for me.

But I have seen in a huge post in the Warrior Forum, about how you should always post any article you write on your blog first, then give the same article to the directories. There has been a massive debate on the matter, and according to some full time article marketers, Google does not penalize you for this?

So I’m not really sure what to believe, but these guys seem to know what they’re talking about. You’ll have to try and find the thread on the Warrior Forum about it to see exactly what I mean, but what do you think from what I’ve said, is it true?

Hey Paul,

I myself don’t think Google will penalize you, after all with the articles it’s the back links and the traffic from the article you want.

The thing is with top sites like Ezine Articles they do check content and even if it is on your own site people sometimes have trouble getting the article approved,.

I had one rejected myself in a niche as I had posted it first on Hubb pages and had not changed it that much, I had to go it to my Hubb pages add under the title written by and my pen name then re-submit the article. So it took a week longer than it should have to get the article live.

There is a thread in the Warrior forum with a case like above where they would not approve an article he had on his own domain.

I’ll be honest and say I do a bit of both, the last article I had approved was a copy and paste job of my Twitter traffic post.
Before that I tended to put the article in first then change it up a bit and post on my blog.

I think the debate will rage on for a long time yet.

A question for you now,if you are driving traffic to your blog with the articles, do you think there is a need to put you article in a blog post aswell??

If they come from an article to a post with the article on they might just think this is the same old stuff I just read and click away.

That’s another reason in my book for doing the article submission first the initial traffic will see a different source of information, leave it untill the traffic from your article is slowing then use it as content for a post maybe.

Wow got a blog post in my comment here.

Last words for you to make your article stick a bit more.

BOOKMARK YOUR ARTICLE LINK.
most people think that writing the article is enough but take the article url then submit that to bookmarking sites to give it that extra kick (not too many at one time though) I have had many articles on the first page of Google by doing this, Sphinn,Digg,Stumble and so on.

Wow I’m done,

Thanks for the visit,

James

Hey James,

Wow, that really was like another blog post. :)

In response to your question,

“if you are driving traffic to your blog with the articles, do you think there is a need to put you article in a blog post aswell??”

I was thinking of maybe linking back to the category on my blog, of the subject I talk about in my article. Like if the article was on traffic, then link to the traffic category and they see all posts on traffic. Most likely they will have only seen one of your articles.

But I see what you’re saying, I think I will write a few articles purely for article directories, and submit to Ezine first, then a few others.

Thanks for the bookmarking tip, I read about that on the Warrior Forum, and I did do a bit of bookmarking on my first article. I just need to ramp my article marketing up a bit now.

Thanks for the great reply,

Paul.

Hey Paul,

I see where you are going with the categories, I like the idea.

You could always write say a 600 word article and then only submit it as a 400 word article it would give the reader an extra read.

I have just been reading something and they say they use Ezine until the traffic starts to slow and only then they submit to others to boost it up again but everyone finds thier own method.

Aswell as bookmarking take the rss feed from the article page and submit that, you can also take the rss feed from your profile page and do that so everytime you put in a new article it’s already ahead of what most people do.

Take it easy,

James

Hi James,

Lovin the site. I see a similarity there and I nicked it from Marcus Passey. I love the fact that the theme and style is almost a branding of the students (know you’re not a student but I see you as such)

As for your post, it really interests me. I currently have expert author status at ezine articles and have about 14 articles approved but I am still a novice article marketer.

I am aimimg to use Isnare to distribute my articles as well but don’t know if I can give them the same article as I have at Ezine articles. Had some success with Isnare in the past.

Any advice on that?

Andy

Hey Andy,

A big thanks for that, Marcus nicked it from Dean you knicked it from him, I don’t know, when will it ever end.(I saw both Dean and Marcus using it so I suppose I took if from both of them.)

As for Isnare I would not use them myself, I have seen mixed reviews about them (one good one did have a refferal link for them,) but some that had the articles republished without their links in, not good but that could happen with any article. If it’s just the backlinks your going for then they could be good but I can find software that will do the same thing for free if needed (with a little searching) but I am working a different route at the moment.(I will let you know if it works.)

You should be able to use the same article, Ezine even allows articles that have been printed elsewhere first as long as you can prove ownership.

Don’t think that helps much but I would not pay for articles to be submitted.

I only to submit to a few directories but along with Social Bookmarking it has worked well

Thanks for the visit,

James

Hey James,

I finally made it back over here to reply, I was actually here yesterday but didn’t have any time to leave you this comment.

I just wanted to say thank you for these article marketing tips, I doubt I would of ever thought of submitting my article rss, or my profile rss feed.

I’ll definitely be doing that in the future, as well as bookmarking.

Paul.

Hey James,

This is a really great post about something I truly haven’t spent much time doing. As I have written a few articles for these directories, I have never included anchor texts (which probably negates the real reason to create articles!).

I’ve now learned that I should probably submit at least one article per week to a directory and actually use some anchor texts for backlinking!

Thank again and talk soon,
Joe

11

Hey Paul, been back over to your blog, looking forward to your tips on Monday.

Hey Joe,

Thanks for the visit.

I have to say yes, the idea of article IS to link back to your site lol.

I signed up for your videos last night but not had chance to watch them yet it was around 1:30am so I thought it was time to sleep.
Will watch them later as at the moment I have my 15 month old still up and running about. (it’s now 19:50 so hopefully she will sleep soon)

Cheers,

James

Hi James,
I’ve just replied to your comment on my blog, and I’ve popped over here to visit.

Very interesting ideas here about article marketing, including the pros and cons of having identical articles on the article sites as well as on the blogs. It’s a debate I intend to follow closely.

I also did not include any links in that Ezine article. I chose instead, to simply inform readers about what I considered important imformation regarding how I handled my first negative feedback on eBay.

After being away for a while, I’ve recently re-entered the fray, so my upcoming Ezine articles would have the necessary links etc.

Hey, it’s great being among you guys and I hope to learn a lot, as well as make some meaningful contributions.

James

Great post with some really useful tips, particularly the bookmarking piece as I hadn’t seen that mentioned before.

I’ve recently started testing with articles and have actually made a couple of affiliate sales through articles seeded with my affiliate links so know that they can be successful, just need to get the time to write some quality material!!

Keep up the good work

Hey Tom,

That’s great news you have started making sales already.

Go on tell me on what product:-)

I make sure I bookmark all my article pages so it boosts the rank in the article site in turn bumping it up the search engines as long as you have good keywords.

Cheers,

James

HI James
A real good post with some very informative points on article writing.
submitting two or more posts in succesion, I never thought it would upset the search engines, also ripping a post off your webpage to submit as an article would also be penalised , thanks for the tip james.
Im still unsure about using plr as an ebook but a good friend of mine does take some good bits out of them and rejigs them with his own ideas and submits them as articles ,and they are a real good read
cheers mick

16

Hey Mick,

Thanks for popping over,
The idea for me was not to use the plr as my own but to take ideas out of it then write your own.

You can as you say always use the plr as articles.

Could start a new debate on this one hey…

Everone needs to find their own way but as I said on your blog my plr is gathing cyber dust.

Keep in touch,

James

Article Marketing is really a good way in promoting your products and also your website. i used to write health articles on a big pharmaceutical company for the purpose of article marketing.

18

Hey Pammy,

Thanks for stopping by.

Article Marketing IS good but you have to keep at it most people think that one article is enough then give up when they don’t get anywhere.

It’s also great for the back links.

Cheers

James

Article Marketing is one of the best ways you can promote your website and the products that you sell. The articles that you publish online or offline also helps to establish the credibility of your website or product. `
