Beginners Guide To Internet Marketing.
Marketing Basics Part 1.
By
Ok so I thought I would go back to basics for this post
and start from the beginning and tell you what you will need when starting out.
(The reason for it only being part one is shown at the bottom of the post.)
First things first you need a domain name 2 of the more popular places to get
your domain name from would be.
Namecheap.com – This is where I got my last domain from.
Godaddy.com – I have also bought from here.
Now if your are using the domain for branding yourself then use your name as the
domain or if it’s a popular name, firstname-or_lastname or in my case when you
find that the .com .us .org .co.uk and the – and _ and everything else I tried
have been used and there are thousands of results for your name use a domain
you’ve had for a couple of years and transform it. It’s all that James Howard
Kunstler’s fault. I tell ya what’s a guy to do to get his name on a domain.
Affiliate Marketing Domain
If you are going to use the domain for affiliate marketing then you need to use
your keywords in the title. If you are going for the product name for a new
product launch then good ones are productnamereview.com productnamescam.com
productnamedownload.com.
Hosting
Hosting is of great importance you don’t want your site to crash but unless you
have a major product launch coming up the chances of that are slim.
Not all hosting is on the same level. Before I chose to use hostgator.com I was
with a hosting company that almost made me give up online before I had really
started.
I won’t mention names as they would probably sue me. I took one look at the
dashboard and thought what the hell am I meant to do with this. After about 4
weeks I managed to get my site live. 4 WEEKS, I had already made the pages and I
thought it was just a case of uploading them. At one point I tried to password
protect a page but instead I managed to lock myself out of the dashboard and the
support took 3 days to get back to me.
Anyway, I signed up with hostgator downloaded all my files from the other host
uploaded them and after waiting I think 24 hours for the nameservers to change
my site was live. That is why I now recommend hostgator.com as it is so easy to
use, most people use it and if you ever see video tutorials about creating a
wordpress site (which can be done in a few clicks from inside the control panel)
or a how to of uploading anything like that in fact, you will find that most are
recorded views from inside a hotgator.com control panel. So if you need hosting
get hostgator.com it’s cheap and reliable with online help.
It won’t take 3 days for them to help you it will be a minute or 2 max I have
found.
So that’s all for now as I have just noticed the time and it is 1.48am time for
bed especially as my middle child has taken to waking me up at around the 5.30am
mark the last three days. Don’t you just love the school holidays lol.
